THE STORY BEHIND THE HISTORIC FRENCH VILLAGE
The story of the historic French village on Le Lai Hill began in the 1920s, closely associated with Colonel Jean O’Neill.
After completing his military service, he chose the Cam Ly area, northwest of Dalat, as the site for a farm and embarked on the development of a hydro electric project to supply water to the surrounding area.
In 1929, the first villa was built, now known as Villa of Jean O’Neill. It served as his residence and marked the beginning of the development of the collection of villas that would later take shape across the hillside.
Not long after, the second villa — the Villa of Military Guest, now home to Le Petit Restaurant — was built as a place to welcome his friends and acquaintances, many of whom were civil servants living in Saigon and Indochina.
From there, the idea of a private residential enclave in the highlands gradually began to take shape.
Those who came here brought with them memories of home and familiar images of the French countryside. Each house was built with its own distinctive characteristics, reflecting the preferences, style and personal imprint of its owner.

Ana Mandara Villas Dalat spans approximately seven hectares, nestled among pine forests and lush gardens.
The estate comprises 19 villas, including 15 restored from the original structures of the former residential enclave and four newly built villas inspired by French architecture.
Seventeen villas are dedicated to accommodation, offering a total of 86 rooms. Each room has been thoughtfully restored with careful attention to original architectural details, while its interiors embody the timeless elegance and sophistication of classic French style.
The remaining two villas have been thoughtfully transformed into spaces dedicated to guest experiences, including Le Petit Restaurant and La Cochinchine Spa.
Between the villas, a range of amenities is seamlessly integrated into the surrounding landscape, from the outdoor heated swimming pool and fitness centre to the children’s play area.
Rather than standing apart from nature, the newer structures are thoughtfully woven among the greenery, continuing the distinctive planning approach of the former residential enclave while helping preserve one of the rare remaining pockets of natural greenery in the heart of Dalat.
